The conception of Língua started in 2018, but the game's development started in 2020. During development I had to take on many roles, since we were a small team. As main designer, audio director, producer, project manager, among other things, I had to make sure the team was working harmoniously through tools like Trello and Excel, aside from weekly meetings that allowed us to be in sync during all of the process.
As a level designer, I had to create levels and puzzles that allowed for a smooth learning curve for the player, introducing each new mechanic and concept in intuitive ways. That meant not only going through a lengthy process of trial and error, but supervising player testing and making changes according to their feedback.
Aside from the puzzles there was the combat element, which required careful balancing to make sure the difficulty levels were close to the players' skill at that point, while offering a certain level of difficulty to make sure the game was not just a cakewalk through the story.

For the narrative, the most important elements were getting the game's message through to the player, offering knowledge about local culture and creating an emotional relationship with the characters' stories.
After defining the main story, I created all of the dialogues in a way that presented the worldbuilding and conveyed the characters' personalities at the same time. This was assisted by a careful process of creating their appearance and voices, along with the colourful and contextful environment.
